Tenth Doctor- Portrayed by David Tennant
Tenth Doctor- The ninth Doctor regenerates into the tenth after cellular damage due to energy of time vortex. Due to the damage, the regeneration cycle is not perfectly completed and the tenth doctor emerges with erratic behavior. Until his regeneration is fixed, he remains in comatose state and experience hallucinations of the events of “The Christmas Invasion“. He now owns psychic abilities and uses telepathy skills as well. He is basically a light- hearted, talkative and easy-going man. This time the regeneration happens in a different way. The tenth Doc is shot by Dalek, and Rose brings him to TARDIS. When he’s about to regenerate, he directs his energy towards his previously severed hand being connected to TARDIS. Now Donna Noble unknowingly touches the hand. This results into creation of partially human and partially Time Lord Doctor. At the end of the series, he is shown alone on the TARDIS. The tenth Doctor will also appear in the fifth series, set to be broadcast in 2010.
Life and Career- He is a Scottish actor. Before shining in the TV and film world, he was an established theatre actor. The fame came in the greater package to him after his work in TV series “Casanova” and “Doctor Who“. His other popular work can be said as Barty Crouch Jr. in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”. In July 2007, he was ranked as the 24th most influential person in the British media in the Media Guardian supplement of The Guardian.
Interestingly, at the age of three, he told his parents that he would become an actor, as he was the huge fan of “Doctor Who” series. After the kid grew up, he acted as a Doctor in the same series.
His first professional role after graduating from the drama school was in a stage play “The Resistible Rise of Arturo UI”. He made his TV debut in the role of a transsexual barmaid in “Rab C Nesbitt”. He has also worked in Arabella Weir’s “Takin’ Over The Asylum” and “Posh Nosh”.
He also joined Royal Shakespeare Company and acted in popular plays “As You Like It”, “The Comedy of Errors” and “Romeo and Juliet”. In 2002, he starred in series of commercials for “Boots the Chemists”.
After joining “Doctor Who”, he took over the throne of Tom Baker by becoming the “Best Doctor” in the eyes of readers of “Doctor Who Magazine” in 2006. In 2007, he was titled as the “Coolest Character” in the Radio Times Survey. He has been signed up to work in Doctor Who: Specials set to air in 2009-2010. In the National Television Awards, he has announced that he won’t be returning to the role after 2009-2010 Specials.
After “Doctor Who”, he appeared in “Secret Smile”. He also remained active in theatre by working in “Look Back in Anger” and “The Chatterley Affair”. He also starred in TV series like “Recovery”, “Blackpool”, “Learners” and comedy “Extras”. At present, he is appearing in theatre project “Love’s Labour’s Lost” in the title role of Hamlet. In 2008, he also worked in an episode of radio series “Nebulous”. In the same year, he was voted “Greenest Star on the Planet” in an online voting held by Playhouse Disney as part of playing for the Planet Awards for supporting eco- friendly technologies. Aside from acting, he is the celebrity patron of the “Association for International cancer Research”.
